What can the GoChronos Image tool do?

The Image tool supports lossy and lossless compression, format conversion (JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF), resizing by dimensions or percentage, batch processing of multiple images at once, photo enhancement — either a classical restoration pipeline (denoise, auto white-balance, sharpening, up to 4× Lanczos upscaling) or a true AI super-resolution mode powered by Real-ESRGAN with a selectable 1×/2×/4× output scale and an adjustable AI denoise strength — and a dedicated passport/visa photo maker. A one-click Auto Enhance mode picks sensible settings for you, and every enhancement is kept in an undo/redo history. All processing is done in the browser — no upload required.

How does the photo enhancer work?

The enhancer offers two engines. Classical mode runs a restoration pipeline — a bilateral denoise filter, histogram-based auto-levels/white-balance correction, Lanczos upscaling and unsharp-mask sharpening — accelerated by WebGPU when your browser supports it, with an automatic CPU fallback otherwise. AI Super-Res mode instead runs Real-ESRGAN, a neural network trained for photo super-resolution (its training data includes blurred degradations, so it also handles mild deblurring), via onnxruntime-web (WebGPU, or WASM on the CPU), with a 1×/2×/4× output scale you choose — the model always computes its native 4× result internally, then resamples down for 1×/2×, so restoration and detail synthesis are handled together regardless of the scale picked. An optional AI denoise strength (Medium/Strong) blends in a second checkpoint trained specifically for heavier denoising on noisy or low-light photos — it's a separate opt-in download, not bundled by default. Pick a preset (Restore, Upscale 2×/4×, Max Quality) or tune each classical stage manually, then compare the result with a zoomable, pannable before/after slider.

What does Auto Enhance do?

Auto Enhance analyzes the photo for resolution, blur, noise and faces, then automatically picks the classical or AI engine and a matching set of settings — no manual tuning needed. It's a single click for both a single image and every image in a batch queue.

What is old-photo restoration mode?

Old-photo restoration mode adds a scratch and dust removal pass aimed at scanned prints — useful alongside denoise, auto white-balance and sharpening for cleaning up aged or damaged photographs before upscaling.

Can I undo an enhancement and try different settings?

Yes. Every time you run Enhance, the result is added to a non-destructive history — step backward and forward through previous results, or jump straight to any earlier step, without re-uploading the original photo.

Can I enhance multiple photos at once?

Yes. Drop multiple files onto the Enhance panel to queue a batch — each image is processed in turn with its own progress indicator, and you can download every result together as a single ZIP file.

What input image formats are supported?

JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and SVG are supported for input. SVG files are rasterised before processing.

What output formats are available?

Output can be saved as JPEG (with adjustable quality), PNG (lossless), WebP or AVIF (when your browser supports AVIF encoding). WebP and AVIF offer significantly better compression than JPEG/PNG for the same visual quality.

Can I export an enhanced photo at an exact size?

Yes. The Export size controls let you crop to a preset aspect ratio (1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 or 9:16) and/or resize to an exact width/height in pixels. This only affects the downloaded file — the on-screen preview always shows the enhancer's untouched output.

Is the image tool free?

Yes. Completely free on GoChronos, no upload to any server.

Which countries' passport photo sizes does the passport photo maker support?

Named presets are provided for the United States, United Kingdom, Schengen Area/EU, India, Canada, Australia, Japan and China, plus a generic ICAO 35×45mm preset covering most other countries and a fully custom size (width, height and head-height range in millimetres). Each preset shows the required dimensions in mm/inches/pixels, the head-height range and the required background color, with a link to the source guidance — always double-check current requirements with the destination country's official source before submitting.

Can it automatically detect and crop my face for a passport photo?

Where supported, Auto-detect & fit uses your browser's own built-in Shape Detection FaceDetector API — an on-device feature of Chromium-based browsers (Chrome/Edge) — to estimate a starting crop, with no image ever uploaded or any model downloaded. It's a starting point to fine-tune against the on-screen head-position guide, not a guaranteed-compliant result. In browsers without that API, drag and zoom the photo against the guide manually.

Can I print multiple copies of my passport photo on one page?

Yes. The print sheet option tiles multiple copies of the cropped photo onto a 4×6in, 5×7in, A4 or US Letter page (in portrait or landscape) with thin cut guides, sized to fit as many copies as the paper allows.
