Does my document get uploaded to a server?

No. The file is opened, edited and saved inside your browser. Grammar checking, rewriting and summarizing run on-device too, so confidential drafts, contracts and medical notes never leave the machine.

Can I open a .docx that came from Microsoft Word?

Yes. Word files open with their styles, page setup, headers, footers, tables and images. Anything the editor cannot represent is listed in a short notes sheet when the file opens, so nothing is dropped silently.

Will the file still open in Word after I save it?

Yes. The editor writes a standard .docx that Word, Google Docs and LibreOffice all open. Fonts are declared by their Word names, so Word uses its own Calibri or Times New Roman.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After the first visit the editor, its fonts and its grammar engine are stored on the device, so writing, saving and exporting need no connection.

Is it free, with no sign-up?

Yes. No account, no page limit, no watermark and no paid tier.

Where are my documents kept?

In this browser's storage, listed on the My Documents page. You can also save any document to a file on disk and keep working on that file directly.

Does it write my text for me?

No. The tools improve writing you have already written — grammar, rewriting your own sentences, summaries, dictation and read-aloud. It does not draft essays on your behalf.

Which browsers are supported?

Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. A few conveniences, such as saving straight back to the same file on disk, depend on browser support and the page says when one is unavailable.
