What does the ATS score actually measure?

Twenty-one checks in five weighted categories: Contact 15, Structure 25, Dates 10, Content 35 and Format 15. A pass counts 1, a warning counts a half, a failure counts zero, and the category average is multiplied by its weight. Paste a job description and the keyword match is blended into the number at 15 per cent.

Why does the top-bar number differ from the Resume Score in Overview?

They are two different figures. The chip in the top bar is the ATS check score. The dial on the Overview tab is a composite: ATS 40 per cent, completeness 25, writing 20, and job match 15 when a posting is pasted. With no job description that last weight is shared out across the other three.

Is my resume or the job description uploaded anywhere?

No. Resumes live in your browser's own storage and every check, keyword extraction and export runs on your device. There is no account and no server copy, which also means a resume only exists in the browser that created it, so keep a backup.

Can a template be marked ATS-safe and still get flagged?

Yes. The layout check and the font check are separate. The Modern template is ATS-safe but its default Space Grotesk pairing is not on the checker's safe-font list, so the Format category can still warn. Switching to Georgia, Garamond, Helvetica or the Grotesk and Georgia pairing clears it.

Which export format should I send with an online application?

Word (DOCX) or Plain text. The Word export uses a simplified single-column layout with real Word headings, lists and hyperlinks. Plain text is the raw version for pasting into application forms: headings become uppercase and bullets become hyphens. PDF is for a human reader.
