Is this a real word processor or a text box?

A word processor. The Word Editor lays text out on real pages with margins, headers and footers, applies named styles, and opens and saves real .docx files. The library and templates pages are the rest of the suite.

Does anything get uploaded?

No. Documents are stored in this browser's own storage and, if you choose, saved straight to a file on your disk. There is no account and no server holding a copy.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Once the page has loaded, editing, saving and exporting work without a connection, including on a plane.

Is it free, and is there a watermark?

Free, with no sign-up, no page limit and no watermark on any export.

Do I need Microsoft Word installed?

No. Nothing is installed and nothing is licensed. The editor reads and writes the .docx format itself, so a machine that has never had Word on it opens the file, edits it and saves it back in the same format.
